New Painting

Today my most recent painting has been finished. It is a 16 x 20
inch, pastel portrait of Native American Fast Elk of the Sioux.  I have used a mixture of Unison and Sennelier Pastels on a sanded board. The preliminary sketch is drawn out in charcoal, followed by the initial under painting.  The pastels are then applied in layers and blended with fingers and tools, until the required depth of colour and tone is achieved.  This is built up in stages, and can take many hours to complete.  Some of the stages of the painting can be seen below.
