Peace and happiness are available in every moment.
Peace is every step. We shall walk hand in hand.
There are no political solutions to spiritual problems.
Remember: If the Creator put it there, it is in the right place.
The soul would have no rainbow if the eyes had no tears.
Tell your people that, since we were promised we should never be moved,
we have been moved five times.
An Indian Chief, 1876.
Today my most recent painting has been finished. It is a 16 x 20
inch, pastel portrait of Native American Fast Elk of the Sioux. I have used a mixture of Unison and Sennelier Pastels on a sanded board. The preliminary sketch is drawn out in charcoal, followed by the initial under painting. The pastels are then applied in layers and blended with fingers and tools, until the required depth of colour and tone is achieved. This is built up in stages, and can take many hours to complete. Some of the stages of the painting can be seen below.
If you would care to see the completed artwork please visit the New Painting Gallery on the website. Karen
Native American Medicine Man
The role of the healers was to get help from the spirit world. Each one would practice healing diseases, healing the mind, promote harmony between people and Earth. The medicine man also had the ability to
inflict harm, promote fertility, and secure good hunting and fishing outcomes.
A Mothers Love
The love that a mother feels for her child and that the child feels for its mother, lives on even when the physical link is broken… for all of us who still have our mother with us, cherish her;…..for those of us who are parted from her, look forward but also remember all the love that passed between you and hold it in your heart.
